ABOUT THE ORION SCHOOL

Our Mission
The Orion School is an accredited, non-profit private school for students ages 5-13. We are located in midtown Atlanta. Our mission is to ensure that complex students with neurobehavioral conditions are self-confident, able to engage in positive social interactions and able to experience success within an academic setting. In a difficult situation, we will definitely help with both the teaching staff and special services where you can buy essays now and read useful information and prepare homework.

Our Students
A diagnosis rarely defines a child and our complex students tend to have neurobehavioral challenges. The most common conditions at The Orion School are related to ADHD, anxiety, or Asperger’s Syndrome. This can include obsessive compulsive disorder, tics, Tourette’s, mood related issues, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia. We have many students who do not have an ADHD diagnosis but may have the traits of impulsivity, inattentiveness, distractibility and hyperactivity and benefit from a more supportive classroom. Almost all our students struggle with the related challenges of executive function disorder, dysgraphia (poor handwriting) and sensory processing disorder. Our students have various social and emotional differences and tend to be inflexible in a variety of situations; including transitions.

Our Philosophy
We take a disability perspective and a strength-based approach to teach our students strategies for success in school and life. We understand the unique academic and behavioral challenges facing our students so we are able to offer a more successful educational alternative for reluctant learners. Many of our students have experienced failure before enrolling in The Orion School. We do not attempt to “fix” underlying conditions, but to offer an educational oasis for our students.

Our Program
Our typical student is active and our program is designed to make the most of this. We focus on the needs of the whole child by integrating the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of our students into our program. High interest, experiential activities are integrated into a novel yet structured school day. We maintain a teacher to student ratio of 1:4. Our classes are kept at four students per class or less to ensure individualized attention and minimize distractions. Our school size is also kept small to offer a more adaptive, student-centered program. Our intimate learning community offers a place where students develop mentoring relationships with teachers and real peer friendships.

Our Location
We are conveniently located at the Grace United Methodist Church in midtown Atlanta. We would like to thank GUMC for their continued support and generosity. We take full advantage of our location as we are minutes from many exciting cultural and educational venues in Atlanta; including Piedmont Park, The Atlanta Botanical Garden, The MLK Center, Fernbank Museum and The High Museum of Art.

Enrollment
We are currently accepting applications for the 2012/2013 school year. Although we have rolling admission throughout the school year, availability is limited.
